Schooling in Nigeria was fun.
1. Pushing the car This was one punishment annoying seniors liked. It was either they drew two cars and asked two students to cause an accident or they drew a car and a petrol station and ask the student to push the car to get fuel. You would stay there knowing it was impossible but of course you have no option. 2. Kneeling Kneeling was like a regular for people. It came as an instruction “Kneel down, raise up your hands and close your eyes” or whatever form it comes these days. But it was mild unless you have to crawl on your knees. That was the painful bit.
3. Flogging Is there anyone who wasn’t flogged in school? Really? We don’t believe you. Some of us managed to ‘chest’ the strokes of cane but it left some of us in a pool of our own tears. But really, who flogging epp now? 4. Cutting grass
If your school had a field, you were probably friends with this punishment or enemies as the case may be. While some loved the fact that it afforded them the opportunity to miss classes, the blisters that followed suit were nobody’s buddy. If it wasn’t any of these, then it was one of these. So, which ones do you remember? Or better put, which ones did you have to do?
Well, everything apart from the classes itself. We had friends to play with during break and a lot of catching up after school.
However, one thing everyone hated was being punished. Oh, how we hated being dealt with either by seniors or by teachers. But the koko is that we still dey and we survived. If you were punished a lot of times, you obviously remember these.
