Mohinder Singh Gill and Daljinder Kaur, husband and wife for 46 years, suffered from the stigma of being childless. Although they were both healthy and have enough money to sustain themselves since they have their own farm outside Amritsar, India, Daljinder failed to conceive. But they never lost hope that one day, they will hold their little bundle of joy in their arms.
Daljinder says that she is 70 years old but she does not have a birth certificate to attest to the truth of her age. The clinic listed her as 72. Through IVF, or in vitro fertilization, the old woman conceived. She delivered their first child, who weighed 4.4 lbs (around 2 kg) on April 19, 2016. Science answered the miracle they so fervently wished for. Who would have thought that old as she is, she can still conceive and carry the child through the entire pregnancy? The child brought changes in their lives. The couple felt more alive, more energetic and younger. Daljiner felt that their lives are now complete. Mohinder helps take care of the child while attending to his farm duties. Not all were joyous though. While they were ridiculed for being childless before, after having their child, some people bashed them for having a baby on their old age. They think that the child will have a hard time growing up and it will be more difficult if the couple will die. Mohinder remains optimistic that everything will be alright for them and their child.
Many did not agree with the doctor who gave them the treatment. Anurag Bishnoi was skeptical at first because of the age of the couple. But when the tests seemed promising, they went ahead with the procedure. Children are considered treasures of their parents.
