First Rule of Cleavage: How to Buy the Right Bra

Chances are that if you’re wearing a bra this very second, it’s most likely riding up your back or the straps are too tight.
According to numerous studies, over 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong bra size. That’s about two women out of every 10 that aren’t treating their tatas right!
We could easily blame this dilemma on the fact that some women have never been to a bra fitting or used a bra calculator to measure themselves. Come to think of it, there are many women that don’t even really know how bra sizes work. Often times, we think our only options are band sizes 32-38 and cups AA-DD. And because such a large percentage of women don’t know how bras should really fit, they put up with constant issues, like wires poking into the sides of your ribs or a little side-boob hanging out.
Yes, I said it.
So, what are you to do? Alison Bryant, a lingerie expert, helps women look sexier, thinner and feel free by providing a few tips on how to buy the right bra.
The first step to getting into the proper cup is finding a store that isn’t just trying to sell you a product. You want someone to help you find a cup that will benefit your breasts. A measuring tape just won’t cut it these days.
“There are two ways to discover what bra size you are and the obvious one is going to a reputable lingerie store that carries cup sizes bigger than Ds,” Bryant explains. “This means they’ll be able to size you correctly and provide a variety of options that look good on you. “No two bras are alike, so you could be bigger or smaller in certain brands.”
And ladies, please don’t feel too timid around your fitter. These lingerie experts have seen it all. They’ll be able to point out and eliminate the problems you face, as well as help you find the correct size.
Let them cater to your needs.
Do you find yourself always tightening your straps to get your bra to fit better? This is a major no-no. The support of your bra should not be coming from the straps but rather from the band.
If your bra is leaving indentations on the tops of your shoulders, it’s time to change your ways. “The right cup should cover your entire breast,” says Bryant. “And if a strap fits so tight that it’s leaving bruises, you’re pushing against nerves that could cause migraines. This pressure can eventually lead to tissue tears and cysts.”
Getting yourself in the right bra can even make your figure all the more flattering, help you embrace your natural shape, and give a major lift to your posture.
The easiest way to find out which bras give you the most flattering figure, all you have to do is try on different sizes wearing a t-shirt. If you look hunched or feel pain, it’s not right. If you stand tall, regal, and beautiful, you’re on the right track. You’ll quickly be able to notice how the bra carries your breasts, and if it looks wrong — it is.
Remember: If you’re in pain, it means you’re wearing the wrong size!
